Academy Admission and Registration

Welcome returning and new families to the 2022-2023 VRB Family! We are honored and pleased you have chosen VRB to teach, love and inspire your dancer to be the best dancer he or she can be. Together, we hold the keys to make this a successful year at VRB!

The first key to success is communication. We email important information frequently. Please make sure your email address is always up to date in our files. We also post important information on the bulletin boards in each studio location. If you haven’t already, LIKE us on Facebook, give us reviews on Yelp, and Google, and follow us on Twitter and Instagram. We don’t post important information on these sites, but it is fun to follow. Please re-familiarize yourself with our handbook and class rules, as well as class dress codes. These can all be found on this website. Also, if you would like to use our automatic payment system, please fill out the attached form under The Academy Page. A new form must be filled out each year, for those currently using the automatic payment program, please fill out and turn in to continue the program. There is a $2 convenience fee if you pay with credit card. This $2 fee is discounted if you pay by cash or check.

If you need to discuss your dancer’s progress or any other concerns with their teacher, they are more than happy to discuss this with you. However, there is just not enough time in between classes to do so, so please email the studio and we can set up a time for you. This is to ensure you are given the time you deserve.  Also, please pick up your dancers at the scheduled end time of their class. If the teacher has to wait with students for pick up, the next class is late to start.

The second key to success is community support. We do that within VRB and outside of VRB in our community. Please take the time to complete and return the parent volunteer form. There are many ways to help support the studio. Here at VRB, we have a commitment to share our love of dance and our resources with our community. We will have a coat drive this October, we will collect canned goods for FISH at Thanksgiving and we will participate in the Williamsburg Christmas Parade. We perform shortened versions of The Nutcracker for area school children, as well as numerous performances in area retirement and convalescent communities. Also, our teachers take their dance expertise into area schools for after-school SHIP clubs. We hope that you will help us give back to our community.

The third key is comradery. VRB has a no tolerance policy for bullying. We expect all students, parents and teachers to be supportive of one another. We believe the best atmosphere for growth is one of safety. Dancers must feel safe to make mistakes, and take creative chances. VRB reserves the right to dismiss any student and/or parent that is disrespectful to another student, parent or teacher. We thank you for your support in not only making great dancers, but great citizens as well.

We look forward to a successful year!

Scholarship Program

Scholarships, through the Jenni Paddock Scholarship Fund, are available to children residing in Williamsburg, James City County, and York County. Our scholarship is intended to allow students to have the opportunity to learn the art of dance through ballet class. It is the goal of the scholarship program to promote and advance the art of dance and to provide a low- or no-cost opportunity for any family who otherwise could not afford dance lessons.

Full and partial tuition scholarship opportunities are based on available funding per calendar year. Consideration for full or partial scholarship is based on aptitude, dedication, and financial need. Any child under the age of eighteen, regardless of race, creed, religion, or sex, may be eligible for consideration. An audition is required for all applicants and will be scheduled following submission of scholarship application documents. Auditions are arranged and reviewed by our teaching staff and Studio and Artistic Directors. The amount of each scholarship depends upon: total funds available; number of successful applicants; technical level of applicant; number of required classes; and financial need. Scholarship awards are distributed based upon the Directors’ and teaching staff’s evaluations.

Scholarships are funded in part by the Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg.
All scholarship applicant and recipient information is kept confidential.

Class Placement

Class placement is based on ability and age appropriateness of the techniques being taught. New dancers will be evaluated by an instructor in a trial class to determine proper class placement. Current students will receive class placement for the new dance year prior to the summer class session.
