Nutcracker School Shows
This year, two one-hour performances of “The Nutcracker” are scheduled for Thursday
December 14th a t 11:00 and Friday, December 15th at 1 1:00 at the Ferguson Center
for the Arts in Newport News. This shortened version of the Nutcracker story takes place during the
magical party when Klara receives her beloved Nutcracker and then several divertissements from the
Land of Sweets entertain us. A lively scene follows with the Nutcracker and his soldiers battling the
Mouse King and his mice. Finally, the Snow Queen and her King dance with their Snowflakes. Upon arrival into the theater, children will get the unique opportunity to watch the professional technical crew prepare for the show, have a question and answer session with the director and learn about important audience etiquette. Additionally, teachers are provided an educational packet about the Nutcracker Ballet and musical score that correlates to the SOL’s at the elementary level. All of these aspects combined provide an opportunity to educate and cultivate lifetime arts supporters and to share our passion for the arts to students who otherwise may never see a live performance of the ballet.
