Virginia Regional Ballet is thrilled to invite dancers and their families to get involved in our upcoming 2025 Nutcracker production. This beloved holiday tradition offers opportunities for aspiring dancers to shine on stage and for families to share in the enchanting experience. Join us in bringing this timeless tale to life at the beautiful Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News. Read below to find out more.
Key Audition Details
- When: Saturday, August 9, 2025
- Where: VRB, 1228 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185
Audition Schedule by Level
10:00 – 11:00 a.m.: PRE-BALLET, BALLET 1/1A
Dancers must be at least 7 years old by the audition date, have completed 1 year of Pre-Ballet or Ballet 1, and have taken ballet classes through the summer (please note that dance camps are not considered “summer classes”).
11:15 – 12:30 p.m.: BALLET 2/2A
Dancers must take ballet classes through the summer (dance camps are not considered “summer classes”). Dancers must have completed a Summer Intensive Seminar in addition to regular summer classes.
12:30- 2:00 p.m.: BALLET 3/3A, EN POINTE
Dancers must have taken ballet classes through the summer and have completed a Summer Intensive Seminar. Remember to bring Pointe shoes if you have them!
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS for ALL dancers
All dancers are required to take summer ballet classes. Non-VRB dancers will be asked to show written summer evaluations from their current ballet teacher. Required ballet technique/pointe classes are expected to be regularly attended at your level. Casting is not solely based on the audition, but also on overall progress made during the summer months of ballet training.
What to Bring to the Audition
Dancers should wear black leotards, pink tights, and have their hair in a neat ballet bun. Save time by completing the audition form beforehand, available at the studio or at www.danceVRB.com. There is a $25.00 audition fee, payable by cash or check to Virginia Regional Ballet
If Selected for the Production
Dancers selected for the 2025 Nutcracker Production commit to attending all scheduled rehearsals and performances, which begin in October. They also agree not to participate in other activities that might interfere with rehearsals or performances , and to pay all costume fees upon request. Checking bulletins, the website, or calling the studio weekly to confirm rehearsal times and dates is also required.
Performance Dates
The 2025 Nutcracker performances at Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News include public performances on:
- Saturday, December 20, at 1:00 p.m. & 5:00 p.m.
- Sunday, December 21, at 1:30 p.m.
Additional educational shows may be added during production week.
Noitification and Casting
Dancers will be notified of acceptance in August and casting in early September. The full cast list will be posted at VRB’s Annual Fall Family Potluck in early September.
